Welcome to what should really be the July issue of NMI’s newsletter—we have delayed this issue to bring you the very latest developments which include an interview with Synopsys CEO Aart de Geus, the 2006 Design Survey, Manufacturing Business Demand Forecast, an office move and the announcement of a new member of staff. |

We are extremely pleased to announce a new addition to the NMI team: Robin Kennedy. Robin has a great many years experience within the industry and has held technical positions in many leading electronics companies including Altera, Infineon, LSI Logic and Roke Manor (to name a few). Robin’s appointment is testament to the interest and engagement we have seen with the Technical Networks and this area provides his initial focus—welcome Robin, we’re very pleased to have you on the team! |

Manufacturing Activities: |

Based on our benchmarking and data provision for our members we are providing a more focussed service to bring smaller groups together in order to bring tangible benefits. For example we have helped to partner sites to share best practice on productivity, Quartz cost saving and have introduced a new network of small fabs who are working together on various topics. |

Cleanroom Energy Efficiency |
|
The quarter has seen the start of the latest NMI Project to revive Carbon Trust Funding. Specifically looking at energy efficiency in cleanroom air conditioning, the project aim is to deliver carbon reductions of 45,000 tonnes of CO2e across 15 participating sites, representing 5% of total energy use. The project will run through to completion in March 2007 and there is still opportunity to get engaged in the program by contacting us |

Lord Lindsay, through his position on the Better Regulation Commission has invited NMI’s members to contribute suggestions to where red tape and bureaucracy can be removed or reduced in their business areas. This could be anything from spending less time filling in forms, less time responding to government requests for information or less time required for inspections—let us know what you what you like to say to Lord Lindsay. |
