NMI awards 2010’s young engineer and contributor to industry
5th November, 2010
Last night the National Microelectronics Institute (NMI) honoured Steven Fisher and Steve Neill at its annual award ceremony in London.
Young engineer of the year Steven Fisher, 26, of Provision Communications graduated with a 1st class MEng degree in electrical and electronics engineering from the University of Bristol, winning the Siemens medal for the best combination of academic and practical skills. Post-graduation he joined Provision as an R&D engineer and has worked on the development of products that stream video wirelessly around the home.
Bill Parsons, executive vice president of ARM, presented the award and described the strength of candidates as “uplifting and inspirational.” With reference to Steven he said: “It’s simply fantastic to see what the cream of young engineering talent is capable of in the right environment. He is a credit to himself, his company and the industry as a whole.”
Steve Neill of Infineon Technologies UK Ltd. was recognised for his outstanding contribution to the industry. He received his award from Dr. Hossein Yassaie, CEO of Imagination Technologies, who stated: “It is for making things happen for UK design companies that the winner of this award was selected. He has worked tirelessly over the past decade to ensure the NMI has embraced the design community members alongside the manufacturing membership.”
The awards are presented to individuals and companies to promote practices conducive to the long-term health of the UK microelectronics industry. Now in its 8th year, the NMI awards ceremony was held at the Park Plaza Victoria Hotel and attracted 300 guests from throughout the UK and around the world.
