Energy Efficiency & CO2 Emissions

The semiconductor industry is committed to CO2 reduction through improved energy efficiency.Through Climate Change Agreements the industry has committed to energy efficiency targets through to the end of 2012.  In exchange for improving energy efficiency, the industry is able to obtain a reduction in the Climate Change Levy of up to 80% currently saving industry participants around £2.5m per annum.

In order to help industry meet its targets, NMI operates a Utilities Best Practise Forum with the goal of sharing information and best-practise across the industry. We pride ourselves on these forums being extremely open, with members willingly sharing information on successful projects and techniques.

One of our key partners in our drive to improve energy efficiency is The Carbon Trust. We work closely with The Carbon Trust to highlight the potential for CO2 savings from common challenges across a number of sites and have won several Network Grants that have enabled significant reductions in CO2 emissions. The flagship project was the 2006 Project on Air Conditioning and Handling that won the Trade Association Forum Environmental Award.
