Jamie Urquhart and McLaren Electronic Systems take major accolades at 2013 NMI Awards.
Industry veteran Jamie Urquhart, ARM Holdings co-founder, serial investor and the Esco Report Chair, has been honoured with the contribution to industry award at the annual NMI Electronic Systems Awards. NMI also named McLaren Electronic Systems, the world's leading designer of control and data systems for motor sport, including Formula One, Nascar and Indycar, as company of the year. Ashley Robinson, a final year MEng student at the University of Southampton, has been named the 2013 UKESF Scholar of the Year. During his summer placement with his UKESF scholarship sponsor, CSR, the 21 year old student has been actively involved in developing NFC chips and LCD controllers. Read more

The PowerelectronicsUK forum has been launched. The Rt. Hon. David Willetts MP officially announced the launch of the forum and the website and said "The new forum has come about as a result of the government’s strategy document “Power Electronics: A Strategy for Success” and will be split into three working groups created to address key strategic areas for the sector in the UK – skills, technology and the supply chain." More engineering roles appear on the shortage occupation list: The Migratory Advisory Committee (MAC) recently consulted industry and reviewed occupations considered vital for UK's economic success. As part of the process NMI collected evidence to support the Electronic Systems' industry needs for IC Engineering, Embedded Software and Specialist Electronic Engineering jobs. Our aim was simple: to reduce the bureaucracy associated with recruiting the rare skills our member's businesses need and which cannot be readily obtained in Europe. The MAC's full review of the recommended shortage occupation list for the UK has now been published and we are pleased to inform members that the evidence has been accepted and these recommended occupations appear on that list. The report can be downloaded from the UK Border Agency website.
