Innovation Opportunities in the South West
A smart grid focuses on intelligent power usage across a distributed network. It encompasses the delivery of electricity from suppliers to consumers using digital technology to control appliances at consumer's homes to the usage of power across telecoms networks. The benefits are a decreased energy usage, reduced cost, enhanced services and increased reliability and transparency.
The deployment of smart grids will create opportunities for companies across the South West to address new markets, develop new products or services or form new collaborations.
Specific areas of opportunity may include smart metering, femto cells for telecoms networks, localized power networks using renewable energy, data over power lines and sensors for remote nodes.
The Microelectronics iNet is holding this Innovation Forum to generate several project proposals that the iNet will directly support through feasibility study stage and beyond.
Attendees will benefit in several ways:
•Receive exclusive access to bespoke research
•Find new partners to collaborate with
•Explore new opportunities that may receive funding in the future in a facilitative environment
•Use your expertise to help solve the UK’s energy challenges
•Be an active part of the one of the strongest technology clusters in the world
•New technologies and practices to learn about
•Work with your peers and be better informed
•Extend your network to ease gaining new customers, employees, investors, advisers
•Access to services and facilities through central pooling and working with other members
