Education, Training & Skills

NMI have worked closely with industry and academia to help develop several innovative programmes to meet the industries need for continuous development of staff.

Our current programmes are:

Continuing Education in Electronics Systems Integration (CEESI)
Insight Management Diploma
Insight Team Leader Certificate

Faultfinding Training
Introduction to Semiconductor Processing

Continuing Education in Electronics Systems Integration (CEESI)
The CEESI programme is a collaborative venture between 10 leading Universities in the field of Electronics System Integration, industry, and the National Microelectronics Institute and is supported by funding from EPSRC.

Essentially CEESI offers over 30 high quality modules covering many aspects of Electronics Design including Digital Design, Software, Processors, DSP, Analogue Design, Communications, and Manufacturing and Test. All the modules have been developed in co-operation with leading industrialists to ensure relevance and currency.

It is possible for engineers to take individual modules for retraining/updating (Continuous Professional Development) and also to build up credits towards a postgraduate award (up to MSc) at any one of the partner Universities.

Flexibility is a key element of the CEESI programme. Distance learning available for many of the modules avoids the inconvenience and expense of travelling and enables study times to be at the engineer’s own pace.

International research indicates that increases in labour productivity resulting from targeted training can yield a return on investment of more than 30 per cent. It is also well known that organisations that spend the most on training and education are more innovative and have lower staff turnover thus saving staff recruitment and replacement costs.

Insight – Level 5 Management Diploma – CMI accredited

Key partner Clearwater Brookes Ltd and assisted by Quest Business Solutions and Business Improvement & Training Solutions

This level 5 Diploma in Management, which is Chartered Management Institute (CMI) accredited, allows individuals to learn a full range of managerial skills. Through assignments individuals have to demonstrate the learning they have gained within the classroom and apply it to their current workplace, thus not only developing the individual but also the organisation.

Modules of Study
The Diploma comprises of 8 compulsory modules. Each module is based on an area (or inter-related areas) of Management, and each module is designed with specific aims in mind. The final module is a Project, designed to provide the student with an opportunity to develop and apply the skills learned on the programme by addressing a practical management issue.

  • Developing Your Management Style
  • Effective Communication and Information Management
  • Managing Performance
  • Managing Financial and Non Financial Resources
  • Planning to Meet Customer and Quality Requirements
  • Recruitment and Selection
  • Principles of Project Management
  • Final ProjectClick here to access the CMI website

Introduction to Semiconductor Processing

in partnership with Components Technology Institute

The Introduction to Semiconductor Processing is an intensive five days training course that addresses the needs of scientists, engineers, and technicians newly involved in design, development, testing, production, management, procurement or evaluation of semiconductors. While the course will add to the knowledge and understanding of experienced technologists it is an essential course for all new entries into the industry. This training seminar covers modern semiconductor processes in sub-micron CMOS, BICMOS and bipolar, from a historical perspective. The course systematically reduces semiconductor theory to current practice through the use of visual examples and design graphics in basic materials, production processing and device operation. The impact of processing on yield, performance, and reliability issues is explored throughout the course. Emphasis is on imparting to the student an experience and understanding of the fundamental process and device concepts essential to the development of a productive career in the industry.
