Description

Based in Maritime Greenwich, the Computational Mechanics and Reliability Group (CMRG) is a world leader in the development and application of computer-aided technologies which predict the physical behaviour, performance, reliability, and maintainability of complex engineering systems and products. Led by Professor Chris Bailey, the group has been active since the mid 1990's and contains 20 researchers.

Markets & Geographies Served:

CMRG has carried out research and consultancy projects for companies and organisations at regional, national and the international level (for instance the EU, USA, China, Japan, Taiwan).

Organisational Competencies

Particular focus of the group's work is the development of software tools and modelling techniques for multi-physics predictions, failure analysis, reliability, and optimisation. These technologies predict the performance and reliability of electronic, photonic, and micro/nano-scale components used in many industrial sectors such as aerospace, transport, medical and telecommunications, etc. CMRG members serve on a number of influential committees such as the Dti materials metrology working group, International Microelectronics Packaging Society (IMAPS), the Innovative Electronics Manufacturing Research Centre (IeMRC), EPSRC, IEEE-CPMT and others.

Applications Focus

The team has provided its services and technologies to a wide range of application areas. This includes microelectronics, optoelectronics, power electronics and Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems (MEMS). It's expertise has been used to help solve problems in fabrication, packaging and reliability of components and systems including System on Chip (SOC), System in Package (SiP) and heterogeneous systems.
